Golden Gate Bridge International Conference
About this event
This special conference planned in partnership with the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District and the American Public Works Association (APWA) was held at the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero in San Francisco in June 20-22, 2012 as part of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge. The central theme of this international conference was "Public Works for Public Learning" which focused on the topic of how to develop effective public exhibits and educational programs based on the areas of infrastructure, construction, and engineering.
This conference gathered speakers from around the world representing both large and small-scale public works projects to share how they have utilized their facilities to develop education and outreach programs for the general public. The extensive guest speaker list included representatives from the Eiffel Tower, the Panama Canal and the Hoover Dam .The evening banquet was highlighted by Keynote speaker, Dr. G. Wayne Clough, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institute.
In addition to the conference, this event included a special tour of the Golden Gate Bridge Outdoor Exhibition, unvailing the initial set of exhibits installed around the main visitor area at the South end of the Golden Gate Bridge.
