NEES Annual Meetings
About these events
As part of the NSF-funded George E. Brown Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation program, CUREE was responsible not only setting up the organization stucture for this nationwide science initiative, but also promoting its value to the earthquake engineering community and its growing membership. This involved arranging the first two NEES annual meetings, in Park City, UT and San Diego, CA respectively, as well as providing logistical assistance for the third meeting in Minnesota.
The technical programs included updates on both the NEES program, as well as to the individual equipment sites that were a part of the NEES network. Social functions provided opportunities for young engineers and researchers in the fields of structural and earthquake engineering to interact and share ideas.
The success of these inaugural meetings were due in large part to Reed Helgens (and the CUREE staff) for planning these events and managing the many logistical details and meeting requirements of the various sub-committees, which included budgeting, advertising, handling venue and speaker arrangements, and providing onsite technical support.
