The College of Engineering at North Carolina State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Professor and Head, Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE). The successful applicant will hold an earned doctorate in a Civil Engineering field or a related discipline. The candidate will have a distinguished record in undergraduate and graduate level teaching, scholarly research, service to the civil engineering community, and will be qualified for appointment as a tenured Full Professor.
The new Head must have the vision and skills needed to continue leading the Department to its goals of excellence in research, teaching, and extension. The successful applicant will have the ability to promote academic scholarship, foster industrial partnerships, and further develop the physical and intellectual facilities of the department while working towards enhancing the endowments of the department. The new Head is expected to have excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
The CCEE Department at NC State is among the five largest in the nation with recent enrollment levels of about 1,000 undergraduate and over 280 graduate students, approximately a third of which are doctoral candidates. Strong undergraduate and graduate programs are offered in numerous specialty areas of civil engineering. The Department has a vibrant cross-cutting research program and is served by a distinguished faculty of over 40 members, who include recipients of international, national, state, and local awards for excellence in teaching and research. Departmental research expenditures exceeded $15 million in 2008.

The CCEE Department is one of 9 departments in the College of Engineering (http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/) at NC State University (www.ncsu.edu). NC State University is one of the nation’s leading public universities and land-grant colleges with a current total enrollment in excess of 30,000. It is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as one of only 31 universities nationwide with both “very high” research activity and notable community engagement. Centennial Campus is the future home of the CCEE Department, and the Department’s Constructed Facilities Laboratory is already located there.
